A “banned” song from the 60s. Shame, because this is really good. And we need hippie bashing today more than ever.

I posted El Paso a few months back, but here is the follow up song.

The original: Johnny Cash version: It’s impossible to say which of these versions I like better. The 50s echo on the Marty Robbins version makes his version sound more ghostly. Johnny Cash’s broken down, craggy voice reminds me of an old ranger retelling his life on his deathbed. Either way it’s one helluva song.

How is it possible that I’m only posting this now? One of the greatest songs ever written. Somehow I imagine every time period of the world has had a song like this. Sounds simple, but extremely well written and executed. That is the mark of a true work of art.
