You probably notice a distinct lack of stories dealing with rape, cannibalism and the like. Well, as of Friday night, Daily Rotten’s server is down. I hope this is only a temporary thing, because “links of the day” without the Daily Rotten would be very boring indeed.

Well, until next time!

One of my favorite bands of the early 90s. I’m ashamed to admit that it was only a few years ago that I realized this song is about Audrey Hepburn. Yeah, I’m really lame.

Under the cut are some pretty snazzy, high-res Audrey Hepburn images continue reading…

Oh dear God… I finally realized something today, Yui looks a lot like this girl I like at school. Same hair cut, same hair color, similar eyes and smile. Now K-On! will forever taste of unrequited love. Ugh…

I can’t get this out of my head. I find myself singing “For the douche, for the douche for the motherfuckin’ douche” at inappropriate moments. And I’m totally smitten with Kate Micucci. She’s the brunette, if you didn’t know.

I usually prefer the more pop songs in The Cure canon, but this darkdarkdarkdark song hits all the right notes with me.

The first of many animated GIFs!

Ah, the so-called “buzz kill” track. On the awesome Power, Corruption and Lies, this song follows the ecstatic burst of awesome pop that is “Age of Consent.” And yes, in some ways it does drag the overall momentum of the album, especially when it’s followed by “The Village.” But there is a method to the madness. It makes the songs it sandwiches sound even more bouncy and poppy. And it’s also a pretty good take on the band’s former sound (ala Joy Division, for those who do not know). And you can never argue with a New Order song because of Hooky’s bass. Dat bassline, dude, DAT BASSLINE!

This might be my favorite Stereolab song. The bounce of the music, the French lyrics, the horns, dat bass… This sounds like it could’ve been out of a 60s French film. I get mental images of a small-town girl walking around Paris for the first time spellbound.
