Ah, the so-called “buzz kill” track. On the awesome Power, Corruption and Lies, this song follows the ecstatic burst of awesome pop that is “Age of Consent.” And yes, in some ways it does drag the overall momentum of the album, especially when it’s followed by “The Village.” But there is a method to the madness. It makes the songs it sandwiches sound even more bouncy and poppy. And it’s also a pretty good take on the band’s former sound (ala Joy Division, for those who do not know). And you can never argue with a New Order song because of Hooky’s bass. Dat bassline, dude, DAT BASSLINE!
