mumblings and ramblings

ratan is not amused

Yeah, yeah, I know… I’m one opinion of million. I’m sure everybody talked about this at work (at least everybody stateside). By now we know MLB will not review the call, and I am glad.

Don’t get me wrong. The emotional part of me wants MLB to overturn the lousy call and give Galarraga his perfect game. He truly pitched it and it’s unfair he isn’t getting official credit for it.

The logical side says MLB did the right thing. If MLB caved and overturned the call it’d make for really bad precedent. How many other bad calls would they have to review? Why not go back to the 1985 World Series and overturn that other notorious blown call? It sucks for Galarraga, but MLB has to stand firm.

NOW… I’ll also add that MLB also has to add instant replay, otherwise all of this is in vain. Instant replay should have been added years ago, but now with this great injustice, too many people will be calling for it for MLB to ignore.

Lastly, and it has to be said, IT IS ONLY A GAME. Yes, it sucks for Galarraga, but this is minor in the grand scheme of things. As long as diabetes, cancer and AIDS kill untold amounts of people around the globe, I’m gonna find it hard to think too much about this beyond today. Or even last night.

Detroit is not my team, and if this happened to a Pirates or Dodgers player I might be more upset, but I’d hope to get over it and get on with my life. Galarraga and Joyce already have, so should the rest of us.

Ah, a song from 1995, the year I graduated high school. Also my first full year on the internet. I always dug 90s chick rock. Funny fact about this band — the first time I was ever flamed online was because I misspelled their name. It’s a crime, ya know. It wasn’t my most embarrassing spelling mistake. I once misspelled a professor’s name in an email, but enough about that, shut up and get to the music…

Does anybody remember Hum? This is the lead off track from their very rare first album. Of course, with the internet, nothing is rare anymore. You can’t get this on iTunes, but there are places where you can find it. Or so I’ve heard.

Mark E Smith is my Bob Dylan. Can’t believe this (and yesterday) are the first two Fall songs I’ve posted here.

I always heard of .45 Grave, but this is my first time hearing them. From what I can tell they’re usually more punk influenced, but this song (and video) has me rolling, so it gets todays’ spot:

Who said Goths don’t have a sense of humor?

I am so crushing on this girl it ain’t funny. It’s a nice to see a ginger who appreciates her freckles. I loves me some girls with freckles.

Oh, and this is my first time hearing of rat king. Let me google… and… eh, I’ve seen worse. Much worse.

Woot! The entire ten minute song in one video.

I was back on the old campus this evening for a special meeting. I was immediately struck by two things:

1) It looks like the university FINALLY hired a landscaper that could get the grass to grow right. No patches of brown anywhere to be seen, and so thick and luxurious!

2) The English teachers still like to put their giant bumper stickers on their office windows so everybody who walks by can see their “progressive” beliefs displayed like a billboard. Ho hum. Of course it’s their right, but since leaving the campus for the real world I’m more convinced than ever that most college humanities professors are no more mature than the students they teach. To be fair, it’s the only thing they can do with their degree, but the allure of having hundreds of mush brained teens who they can turn into their clones has to be an orgasm to their dictatorial ways.

It’s funny, the most “liberal” teacher I had was the one that would freak out when students displayed any independent thought that pushed up against her Marxist/radical feminist leanings. To her, any idea was right, so as long as it was radical and advocated the destruction of capitalism, or confirmed her victim status as a poor, put-upon woman. Anything else meant you were “brainwashed by talk radio.” Maybe she was brainwashed too. Needless to say I kept my fucking mouth shut a lot in her classes.

I heard a saying once that Christians are the #1 reason why Atheists exist. Well, I guarantee the #1 reason you have a lot of angry young conservatives out there is because of douche bag “progressive” professors. Sweet Jaaaaaaaysussssss Wept All Mighty I hope I don’t run into her when I start taking courses again. I can tolerate most of the others, but not her. No way. And I have too much of a spine now to keep my fucking mouth shut this time.

Oh yeah!
