mumblings and ramblings

Maybe the best Stones riff since Start Me Up? And it might win the award for the “most times ‘shit’ was said in a top ten [UK] single.” But none of that matters, because this is a great song and the video makes me want to build a time machine so I can join a rock band in the 60s. Dig them hippie chicks.

God, I loved The Clash. Despite often despicable politics, they were the most musical of classic (and current) punk bands.

These guys were great. Taken out of context (IE — the PC alt rock 90s) they might not seem so radical, but the kids who were around that time understand. I was always smitten by Zia (the nudist keyboard player) and who can blame me? Still, one of my favorite memories of Switchblade Sweeties was when she managed to piss off the entire web site by posing nude while pregnant! Oh the shock! Oh the horror! Still the best set ever, even five years later.

I present ACTA

Potential border searches are covered by the “Border Measures” proposal of ACTA. As of February 2009, and according to University of Ottawa law professor Michael Geist, there is significant disagreement among countries on this topic: “Some countries are seeking the minimum rules, the removal of certain clauses, and a specific provision to put to rest fears of iPod searching customs officials by excluding personal baggage that contains goods of a non-commercial nature. The U.S. is pushing for broad provisions that cover import, export, and in-transit shipments.”[41] Newspapers reported that the draft agreement would empower security officials at airports and other international borders to conduct random ex officio searches of laptops, MP3 players, and cellular phones for illegally downloaded or “ripped” music and movies. Travellers with infringing content would be subject to a fine and may have their devices confiscated or destroyed.

Yes, because NOBODY EVER, EVER, EVER has ripped music or movies from their own collection. EVER.

Damn it, I miss the 90s… Despite the overt Pink Flag influence, Stiffs Inc still sounds like a headfuck to me. No “punk” band today (or back in ’95) had that quality. Miss them much. And I dig the Victorian thing they had going on.

CHORUS!

According to Google Maps, this certain map reference points to an empty field somewhere in Iowa. That’s what I love about Wire, they’re so random and mysterious.

I’ve listened to this song hundreds of times (literally) and it still sounds fresh to me as it did the first time. The only downside to this YouTube presentation is the bass nearly gets cut out. Nick is a great bassist, so try to hunt down an mp3 or cd or best yet, vinyl LP.
