mumblings and ramblings

ratan is not amused

Automatic for the People was a surprise success considering it came out in 92 where only grunge was on the radio. Have I mentioned that the early 90s music scene has been overhyped by musical historians?

I kind of forgot about 4shared. Thank God, otherwise this whole REM month thing would have been canceled. I swear to god, you have no idea how hard it is to find REM studio tracks on YouTube. I can find any obscure indie band I want, but a million selling pop band? No no no…

EDIT: 4shared has forsaken me!

Anyway, New Adventures in Hi-Fi was the last album with Bill Berry and the last truly classic REM album. I often wonder if Berry’s drumming somehow inspired the rest of the band to great things. The band hasn’t released too many off-kilter genius tracks like this one since he left. And it’s hard to believe that was almost 15 years ago. God, I feel old…

Here is a live version of this song, since 4shared is being a cunt today:

Green is supposedly REM’s big dumb rock record. The one they recorded before they recorded Monster. But it also has a lot of dark, acoustic and mid tempo numbers. The steel guitar makes this song.

It’s amazing how difficult it is to find REM songs on YouTube. Goddamn EMI and Warner Bros. I mean that literally, God needs to send a few lightening bolts up their asses.

I tried to find the slow version (that was on And I Feel Fine), but sadly it wasn’t on there. But this is the more familiar version. I find it hard enough to garden in daylight, so good for the guy who inspired this song.
