The next few weeks I’ll be away in… TEXAS! Yuppers. Here are a few songs to keep you busy until I get back.
OK, I’m not leaving until tomorrow, but I want to start this early. This is a great example of a modern day folk ballad (despite it being a pretty rocking tune), and I hope it becomes a standard someday. It came out about a year and a half after the big Waco debacle and, at the very least, gives a fair (if not sympathetic) treatment of the Branch Davidians. A pretty brave stance to take in Janet Reno’s America (and the PC alt rock scene of the day). I always get a chill at the line “the choppers are descending like Ma Reno said they would.”
I posted a few Audrey pics last month for Velocity Girl’s dedication to her “Audrey’s Eyes.” I found a thread on /hr/ that featured dozens of similarly high quality images, so I thought I’d share them with you this month. Audrey Hepburn was one of the most classically beautiful women in the history of Hollywood, and, perhaps, influenced the look of many cute anime girls.

It’s the 80s all over again! But in a good way. Even more retro sounding than usual, but that’s why I love this song so much. I love the New Order-esque break towards the end.

Ah, Hooky’s “other” side project, the much hated and maligned Revenge. Why people reacted to this band so violently, I’ll never know. This song is really great. Yes, it is a complete rip-off of New Order’s more subdued side, but hundreds of bands have used that sound and nobody ever gives them shit for it.
