I have always loved the Meat Puppets. They were one of the bands in the 80s that pissed off the hardcore scene. Bob Mould talked about this at length in his autobio, the hXc scene was supposed to be about “no rules!” but that didn’t stop them from persecuting anybody who strayed outside the “faster and louder” lines. Especially the Meat Puppets, who played Neil Young and Grateful Dead covers, and wrote beautiful songs like this one:

The image on this video is cracking me up. So inappropriate in a number of ways.

As usual, when I post a Bob song I feel the need to post a Grant song. Grant Hart is the unsung forefather of a lot of alt rock that came out in the 90s. But don’t hold that against him. I always enjoyed his songs more than Bobs and his solo albums have been better than most of what Bob has put out. So there. (That said, Sugar was better than Nova Mob, but even Grant admits that second NM was a bit of a wash).

I read Bob’s autobiography earlier this month. It’s a pretty interesting (and great) read, though uncomfortable at times (and not because of the gay stuff). Thankfully Bob seems a lot happier these days than when he was younger.

I love YouTube today because I found the full length (all 11 minutes!) of Type O’s “Bloody Kisses (A Death in the Family).”

RIP, Mr. Steele!
