One of my favorite films of the 70s is Robert Altman’s Nashville.  The movie is full of great music and this is no exception. Yes, it is satire of corny country cheating songs. But this song has grown on me so much that it’s become a favorite. I really liked Haven’s patriotic song, but this one is has been stuck in my head a lot lately, so it won out.

Without giving too much away, Nashville has an ending that leaves you gutted. That said, there is a ton of great comedic moments throughout, most of it very subtle. In this song it’s the way he rhymes “fishing” and “pitching” and, of course, “sweet Lora-liiiiiie!”
